Backflow prevention devices are required to in order to safeguard public drinking water by preventing contaminants from backflowing into the public water supply system. In order to insure the proper operation of a backflow prevention assembly, it must be tested and certified upon installation and at least once a year by a licensed backflow tester. Mechanical backflow prevention assemblies have to be tested with properly calibrated gauge testing equipment. Typically these instruments are provided in a backflow test kit.
